Driver pulled from ford

A DRIVER had to be rescued from his car after getting stuck in a ford.

A DRIVER had to be rescued from his car after getting stuck in a ford.

The 30-year-old man drove into Lands End Ford in Charvil on Thursday last week after misreading signs which said the water level was unsafe.

He was rescued by firefighters before his car was towed out of the water, which was about 3ft deep.

The ford has become notorious for trapping cars as drivers misjudge the depth of the water. In 2013, a Jaguar had to be winched out of the water and in 2010 a woman was pulled from her car by firefighters after driving into the neck-deep water.

Steve Collier, who runs the neighbouring Lands End pub, said he sees up to 120 drivers be rescued from the water each year after ignoring the warning signs.

The water level of the ford had risen in the recent days following heavy rainfall.
