TWO British troops from RAF Benson have been killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan

TWO British troops from RAF Benson have been killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

The Puma Mk 2 crashed as it was landing at Nato?s Resolute Support mission headquarters in Kabul yesterday (Sunday).

They were among five people killed, while another five were injured.

The Ministry of Defence has not released the names of the deceased but said the incident was under investigation adding that it was an "accident and not the result of insurgent activity.?

The families of the British victims have been informed, the MOD said.

They have asked for a period of grace before their names are released.

The pair from RAF Benson were from 230 and 33 Squadrons, the spokesman added.

Resolute Support is Nato?s train, advise and assist mission in Afghanistan.

In June 1997, 33 Squadron took up residence at RAF Benson and was joined in November 2009 by 230 Squadron.
