Sonning declared “no cold calling” zone

SONNING has become a “no cold calling” zone

SONNING has become a “no cold calling” zone.

The village is the first in Berkshire to introduce the scheme, which aims to discourage door-to-door traders and bogus salesmen.

Residents worked with council trading standards officers and the police, who issued signs for homeowners to display on their doors.

Any traders who ignore the signs could be in violation of consumer protection laws.

Wokingham borough councillor Alistair Auty said: “Bogus salesmen can be a nuisance, especially to the frail and elderly, so I hope that ‘no cold calling’ zones in the borough will help tackle the problem.”
