Vandals caught on camera they tried to smash

VANDALS tried to destroy a CCTV camera in Sonning Common with a sledge hammer.

VANDALS tried to destroy a CCTV camera in Sonning Common with a sledge hammer.

Three men wearing masks and hoods attacked the security device, which overlooks the overflow car park in the centre of the village.

The attack took place at about 4am on February 22 when the same men are thought to have attempted to break into the Co-operative store in Wood Lane nearby. Police are investigating. Parish councillor Dirk Jones said the camera not only survived the attack but captured images of the trio with its infra-red light.

He said: “I don’t know who would try to destroy a camera while looking straight at it. It looks like a boss and two henchmen.”

He said one man was wearing a coat with an unsual design, which might help the police identify him.
