Blitz on parking

POLICE are to “blitz” roads in Wargrave known for dangerous parking.

POLICE are to “blitz” roads in Wargrave known for dangerous parking.

Pc Simon Botham made the pledge at the annual parish assembly in response to concerns raised by residents about problem streets, including Wargrave Hill.

He said any parked cars that posed a risk to drivers or pedestrians would be ticketed.

Pc Botham said: “Parking is such a contentious issue, not just in Wargrave but in the whole area. We take the view that we will enforce it if there’s a risk to pedestrians and road users.”

He said he couldn’t promise that every area would be covered, adding: “Unfortunately, we can’t be in two places at once. We will pick an area and blitz it.”

Wokingham borough councillor John Halsall said the problem would improve once parking wardens were appointed.

The borough council is in the process of decriminalising parking enforcement, which means tickets will be issued by civil enforcement officers rather than police.
