A THIEF snatched £50 from the till at a Henley shop.
The man struck at the Boatique gift store in Friday Street at 4pm on Saturday.
He was browsing when the cashier left her position to re-arrange some stock and he crept behind the counter and opened the till.
The cashier heard this and challenged the man and he fled with the cash. He also tried to take the shop’s laptop but dropped it.
Police are investigating and are studying the shop’s CCTV.
Gillian Nahum, who owns the business, said: “My assistant thought she’d prevented a theft when the man dropped the computer but he’d obviously managed to grab some cash.
“We were very lucky as I’d emptied the register a few days before and we had given a cash refund earlier that day.
“Few people pay with cash these days but if he’d targeted us a few weeks ago he could have stolen a few hundred pounds.”
The man is described as 5ft 10in with a Mediterranean complexion and dark hair. He was wearing a long black coat.
