No Macca but some people guessed the stars

AS well as the headliners, the Henley Festival has named the winners of its guess-the- artist competition, writes Phil Simms.

In the run-up to the official announcement on Monday, a series of clues appeared on the festival’s Twitter feed relating to each of the five acts.

Everyone who sent the festival a direct message with five correct answers was entered into a draw to win a pair of lawn tickets.

The winners were Simon Strickland, Chris Hughes, Stuart Owen, Lesley Prestage and Jenny Butterworth.

A total of 63 people entered the contest and some were way off the mark with their guesses.

As the Henley Standard reported last week, some suggested that Paul McCartney, Gary Barlow or Kylie Minogue would be gracing the “floating” stage in July.

The final two questions, which were posed on Thursday and Friday, drew more off-target answers.

The festival tweeted: “Music, art, acting, there’s precious little this artist can’t do.”

Chris Bartlett guessed Madonna, Kim Bennett suggested Bob Dylan, Tina Turner and Justin Timberlake.

Rosalind Sargent named Stevie Nicks before adding: “I would love to say Will Young. I know he does all of those but you had him last year. I don’t think you will have him again.”

The final clue was: “What’s Leonardo DiCaprio got to do with this band?”

Most people correctly guessed All Saints, but Tom Ryan, programme director of the Henley Literary Festival, who had already correctly guessed Chaka Khan, thought it may be the Dropkick Murphys.
