Prison’s Wilde show

HM Prison Reading will open its doors to the public for the first time

HM Prison Reading will open its doors to the public for the first time in its history on Sunday — for the start of a two-month-long art project honouring its most celebrated inmate.

Inside: Artists and Writers in Reading Prison has seen arts organisation Artangel commission a series of site-specific works for the former Reading Gaol where Oscar Wilde was incarcerated from November 1895 to May 1897.

Artists, performers and writers contributing to the project include Ai Weiwei, Ralph Fiennes, Maxine Peake, Steve Mcqueen, Patti Smith, Ben Whishaw and Jeanette Winterson.
