Does your life leave you overwhelmed?

HANDS up if you are exhausted? Hands up if you feel overwhelmed? Hands up if you are dying

HANDS up if you are exhausted? Hands up if you feel overwhelmed? Hands up if you are dying for a good night’s sleep?

If the answer to most of these questions is “yes”, then you are probably suffering from survivor syndrome. The good news is that you are not alone.

In 2014-15, stress accounted for 35 per cent of all work-related health cases and 43 per cent of all working days lost due to ill health.

General “overwhelm” seems to be a modern epidemic, with people blaming a combination of workload pressures, tight deadlines, increased responsibility, lack of managerial support or home-related pressures.

As a psychotherapist and clinical hypnotherapist I see a lot of “survivors” on a day-to-day basis. Individual problems vary but the fundamental issue is the same — we are all endowed with a primitive brain and if we spend too much time functioning in it we get angry, depressed, anxious or overwhelmed.

So, how can we tame this part of our mind? We naturally produce serotonin (happy hormones) when we a) exercise, b) interact with others, and c) relax.

We can also utilise the benefits of hypnotherapy which replicates a REM cycle and capitalises on something known as the “de-fault mode network”.

Neuroscience is now starting to prove that meditation, yoga and deep relaxation (hypnosis) can be extremely effective to reduce stress and anxiety, increase happiness and build resilience.

Unleash Your Soul is a team of solution-focused hypnotherapists and psychotherapists working one to one and with businesses in and around Henley.
