PROFESSOR Ali Ghoz is a top surgeon who operates at the London Orthopaedic Clinic in Wimpole Street, but also has clinics at two hospitals in Reading, writes Amanda Stewart.
This month, we caught up with one of his patients — 75-year-old Barry Humphries, a master stonemason and company director from Hungerford.
Barry was in considerable pain in his right-hand hip joint and his leg was giving way.
The situation was so bad that he was only too pleased to find Professor Ghoz at his first NHS appointment.
Having met Professor Ghoz at the Spire Dunedin Hospital in Bath Road, Reading, Barry then decided to go private.
He confirms that having researched the professor he was his first and only choice to carry out his surgery.
Professor Ghoz is one of only a few UK trauma and orthopaedic surgeons who specialise in cutting-edge minimally invasive hip and knee surgery. He has a specialist interest in custom-made bespoke hip and knee surgery, with an emphasis on computer-guided surgery — a technique that is popular in both the USA and Europe. This precision-surgery approach, which significantly reduces pain and healing time, is still relatively new to this country.
Barry was in hospital for a mere three days, having opted for the Berkshire Independent Hospital in Wensley Road, Reading, and said that the whole experience was first class.
He has now made a full recovery which he says was excellent and relatively quick. He thoroughly recommends Professor Ghoz and has already introduced a friend of his to him.
Professor Ghoz is different to other surgeons as he provides a personalised service that is tailor-made to all his patients’ needs and expectations.
He was recently featured in the pages of The Hunts Post after he saved retired cleaner Jacqueline Baxter’s leg from amputation.
