AS Henley is about to welcome another coffee shop, let’s take a look at how caffeine can help our health.
Caffeine is a stimulant and should be looked at as a spark to ignite our energy stores. It should not be a source of energy. So if you’re struggling to wake up in the morning or whenever you get a dip in energy in your day, a cup of tea or coffee isn’t all that bad. There are many benefits to it such as improved alertness and reaction times to daily life and exercise.
In Japan, researchers have shown that caffeine can improve memory. Also, a newer study out of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore showed that a 200mg caffeine pill helped boost memory consolidation.
Several studies have shown how it can ease depression as it allows more dopamine to the brain. Dopamine is basically your brain’s chemical messenger for sensing and controlling pain. No wonder I see so many office workers in Starbucks first thing.
Caffeine can also help with male testosterone, which prevents baldness and may improve your sex drive. However this particular study was tested on hairless mice, so I’m questioning this one.
