Flooded chef still serves up a treat

A CHEF whose restaurant was closed by the floods cooked a special birthday meal for a customer rather than cancel her reservation.

Shaun Dickens at the Boathouse in Station Road had to shut on February 9 after being underwater for the second time in less than two months.

Mr Dickens told retired teacher Pam Sheterline that she could not celebrate her 60th birthday at the riverside restaurant but offered to cook at her house instead.

She agreed and so last week he took a team of four staff to her house in Wokingham, where she lives with husband Steve, 62, a former British Airways pilot.

Mr Dickens, 29, and his team spent six hours preparing and then serving an eight-course dinner for Mrs Sheterline and 12 guests last Friday and then returned the next day to cook lunch for her family.
