McGinty appointed new Red Kites boss

HENLEY TOWN Football Club have appointed Gerry McGinty as their new first team manager.

HENLEY TOWN Football Club have appointed Gerry McGinty as their new first team manager.

McGinty, who has been a coach at the club since April, replaces former manager Craig Sumner who has stepped down from the post due to work commitments.

Sumner, who was assisted last season by Lee Povey, who is also stepping down, guided the Red Kites to promotion from Division 1 East as well as winning the Reading Senior Cup last season.

McGinty, who has an FA pro licence coaching qualification is head of coaching at the Bucks College and will be assisted by former Woodley United manager Jock Mowat when the side kick-off their Premier Division campaign on August 2.

Meanwhile the Red Kites have been drawn away in the extra preliminary round of this season’s FA Cup. Henley will travel to fellow Premier Division side Brimscombe and Thrupp on August 6.



The winners of the tie will travel to face the winners of the Carterton versus Highmoor/Ibis match in the preliminary round on August 20.

Meanwhile the club are seeking reserve team manager for their new-look side that will compete in Division 2 East. Anyone interested in the post should contact chairman Kim Chapman on 07515 892909.
