Barklem grabs hat-trick to put Henley in seventh heaven

HUGH BARKLEM bagged a hat-trick as Henley Town AFC started their Reading and District Sunday League Division 3 campaign with an emphatic win.
The hosts started the game brightly. Arron Stevens launched a goal kick upfield, which was flicked on by Barklem into the path of Leon Mannion who burst clear to slot the ball home.
Mannion grabbed his second after Jack Beales’s header from defence was played forward to Aaron Brittain. He played the ball through to Barklem who cut back inside a defender and passed back to Brittain to cross for Mannion who beat the keeper with a header at near post.
But Berkshire pulled a goal back after a lapse of concentration by the Henley players. The ball was crossed in and defenders failed to block a shot which went in.
After the restart, Mannion turned provider. He received the ball inside the box, beat two men and smashed the ball towards the goal which deflected off Barklem and into the net. The ball was then won by Aidan Prior who passed to Tom Carpenter who fed Brittain who then passed to Barklem who turned his defender and struck a low shot past the keeper for his second.
The fifth goal came after captain Josh Collins played from the back into George Chaplin in midfield. He sprayed the ball out wide to Tom Chaplin who burst into the box and cut back to Mannion who struck into the net at the second attempt for his hat-trick.
Mannion then played Carpenter through who dinked the ball over the goalkeeper before Barklem completed the rout and his treble after being played in by Chaplin.
