A JAKE Dillon penalty was enough to earn WOODCOTE/STOKE ROW all three points at UNITY on Saturday, a result that lifted them to third place in the Premier Division.
The visitors went into the match with a number of regular players missing through injuries and holidays, but were boosted by the return of Andy Bullett, Sam Green, Tommy Chapman and Mike Higley.
Woodcote/Stoke Row twice had the ball in the net in the first half but both goals were ruled out due to offside decisions against Andy Bullett and Sam Green.
In the second half Andy Bullett, Toby Nowell and Tommy Chapman all went close for Woodcote/Stoke Row. The introduction of Jonny Summers from the bench on 70 minutes proved decisive, as three minutes later he was brought down in the box and Dillon converted the spot-kick.
Summers put the ball in the net on 87 minutes, only for the goal to be ruled out again for an offside decision. Moments earlier a Unity player was shown a red card for violent conduct. ROTHERFIELD UNITED continue to search for their first win of the season as they slumped to a 5-1 defeat at MARLOW UNITED.
In Division 2 WOODCOTE/STOKE ROW RESERVES went down to a 6-2 defeat away to a strong BURGHFIELD side. Carl Smith and Adam Burgess were on target for Woodcote.
Elsewhere in the division William Jaycock scored his side’s only goal as GORING UNITED went down 4-1 at home to WESTWOOD UNITED RESERVES while WARGRAVE lost their opening game of the season 3-1 at home to MAIDENHEAD MAGPIES RESERVES.
In Division 3 Paul Arthur netted ROTHERFIELD UNITED RESERVES’ only goal of the game as they went down 3-1 to UNITY RESERVES at Bishopswood.
WARGRAVE RESERVES suffered their first defeat of the season as they went down by the odd goal in seven at home to HURST A.
