United started the bottom-of-the-table clash with a high tempo and Simon Frost looked sharp up front. Rotherfield took the lead when centre back Guy Bickerton charged forward and combined well with Ricky Sidhu who saw his shot deflect into the back of the net.
The hosts let Hurst back into the game when they lost the ball in midfield and then defended badly to let the Hurst striker lob the ball over goalkeeper Wildish.
The game then became a tight affair until Kieron Penglase received the ball on the edge of the box at a tight angle from a throw-in and turned with one touch before firing into the top corner with his second touch.
Hurst pushed for an equaliser but Rotherfield held on to secure all three points.
In Division 2 WARGRAVE secured their first win of the season as they defeated visitors GORING UNITED 2-0.
The hosts took the lead in the first half when captain John Rimmer headed home from a corner. Marc Jones wrapped up the scoring and the points with a goal 10 minutes from time.
ROTHERFIELD UNITED RESERVES suffered defeat in Division 3 as they went down 5-2 at YPFC. Darren Scott and substitute Glenroy Yearwood were on target for the visitors.
In Division 4 WARGRAVE RESERVES secured all three points as they won 3-2 at AFC CORINTHIANS A. Goals from Dan Tegg, Jason Heath and an own goal completed the scoring for the visitors.
Elsewhere in the division GORING UNITED RESERVES suffered a 5-1 defeat at home to BRAYBROOKE. Jonathan Nicholas was on target for the hosts.
