WATLINGTON overtook North Berks League Division 3 leaders Ardington and Lockinge with a convincing home win last Saturday.
An early goal by Edgar Garces, who dispatched Conor B’layachi’s through ball with ease, set Watlington on their way to victory as they took over at the top of the table.
It was not all plain sailing in the first half, as Ardington survived a difficult opening 20 minutes to gain a foothold in the game, equalise and then take the lead through two stunning volleys, by Chris Buckell and Jamie Gregory.
Town were lucky to go in at half-time on level terms when Ben Little was first to reach a loose ball near the by-line and blasted the ball high into the net from a tight angle. In the second half Garces was causing havoc in and around the visitors’ penalty area, and eventually he was hauled down inside the box. He put away his penalty neatly to claim his second of the game.
Minutes later Garces was brought down for a second time, this time Little stepping up to claim a brace.
By now the visitors’ heads had dropped, and Town added further goals through a volley from distance from Dan Clifford, before Alex B’layachi put a gloss on the scoreline with a well struck shot finding the back of the net.
