HOSTS WOODCOTE/STOKE ROW showed the firepower that has been missing all season as they brushed aside
HOSTS WOODCOTE/STOKE ROW showed the firepower that has been missing all season as they brushed aside BERKS COUNTY 5-1 in the Premier Division with Jonny Summers, looking particularly sharp, helping himself to a hat-trick.
Inside the first minute, a Berks County error presented James Worsfold with a clear-cut chance, but the keeper made a good save.
Wave after wave of home attacks followed, leading to the opening goal after 19 minutes. Sam Tucker, who also had an outstanding match, threaded a through ball and Summers did well to finish, the ball going in off the far post.
Ten minutes later, after more relentless attacking it was 2-0. James Worsfold, who led the line well all afternoon, crossed for Frank Dillon to plant a header wide of the keeper. A further 10 minutes on and it was 3-0 with Summers in the right place at the right time to tap-in after Tommy Chapman had hit the bar.
The second half opened in the same manner as the first except that this time the first chance was converted to give Woodcote a 4-0 lead and Summers his hat-trick. A precise diagonal pass by Darren Russell found Summers in space and he provided a good finish from a tight angle. After 50 minutes it was 5-0 when Gareth Evans scored from distance after some very good approach play by James Worsfold. After this the match became scrappy, with Berks County reducing the arrears after 65 minutes and Woodcote untroubled as they took all three points.
Elsewhere in the division ROTHERFIELD UNITED slipped to a heavy 5-0 defeat against TAPLOW UNITED at Bishopswood.
In Division 2 WOODCOTE/STOKE ROW RESERVES crashed to a 3-0 defeat away to WESTWOOD UNITED RESERVES.

The hosts raced into a two goal lead before Darren Scott pulled one back from the penalty spot early in the second half for the visitors. However, poor defending led to the hosts restoring their two goal advantage before wrapping up the scoring late in the game with their fourth of the match.
Toby Stoddart netted twice and William Jaycock got his name on the scoresheet for GORING UNITED RESERVES as the visitors picked up a point from their 3-3 draw with SOUTH READING in Division 4.
