HENLEY’S Sacred Heart School’s girls side retained their five-a-side crown at Jubilee Park on Friday of last week.
The winning team were one of eight schools that took part in the Premier Sport annual five-a-side tournament for primary schools which was competed for by more than 60 players.
After the initial round robin stages schools were entered into Pool A and Pool B that saw them play teams of similar abilities against one another.
The Sacred Heart team of Ella Chamberlain, Iona Copland, Ella Fitzpatrick, Pati Gwiazda, Natasha Rasmussen, Lisanne Schoenmakers, Nellie Singer and Salma Van Zyl Marrero made it two tournament wins out of two as they topped Pool 2 ahead of St Mary’s, Badgemore and Goring.
Winners of Pool B were Trinity who competed against Valley Road and the two teams from Woodcote. Winner of the fair play award was Badgemore.
Speaking after the tournament Premier Sports director Doug McArthur said: “The tournament is there to provide new and different opportunities and it was great to see so many of the girls, many of whom have had very little exposure to football, have such a fantastic time and really grow in confidence and develop as the day progressed.
“They were a real credit to their schools and we look forward to seeing many of them next year.”
