HAMBLEDEN recorded their biggest win for five years as they put 12 goals past Wooburn at the Dene on Saturday in the Premier Division of the Wycombe and District League.
The visitors kicked off a player short and 10 minutes into the game Logan found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and finished with aplomb, looping the ball over the oncoming stopper to put Hambleden ahead.
Shortly after Wooburn eased through the Stags defence to level the scores.
Hambleden’s hardworking front four, who interchanged well all game, managed to quickly reinstate their early lead. This time a whipped cross from Croxford was met by the diving head of Openshaw who made it 2-1.
Wooburn then capitulated from this point. Logan added his second and third either side of a Croxford goal. Holloran added a sixth to make it 6-1 at half-time. Minutes into the second half Holloran and Openshaw combined to score the goal of the game, playing a neat one-two before Openshaw added his second.
Two Wooburn players then had an altercation which resulted in the visitors having to play the remainder of the match with just nine men. However, despite being two men short Wooburn worked their way through the Hambleden defence where their winger was allowed too much space as he fired home the visitors’ second of the match.
Hambleden immediately hit back as Logan helped himself to two more poachers’ finishes, taking his tally to nine for the season. Croxford scored another from distance and Openshaw got his hat-trick. Holloran also managed to get his name on the score sheet for a second time to make it 12-2.
