Woodcote/Stoke Row put on a five-star display

Hurst 1, Woodcote/Stoke Row 5

A DEPLETED Woodcote/Stoke Row side, missing six regular players, ran out comfortable winners away to newly-promoted Hurst on Saturday in the Thames Valley Premier League’s top division.

The game started brightly with both sides probing for openings. Hurst played a direct style of football and it was from an early set piece that they took the lead on 10 minutes with a powerful header. The visitors hit back two minutes later when a good through ball by Frank Dillon found his brother Jake who controlled and then lobbed the keeper to equalise.

A clumsy challenge on Toby Nowell inside the box on 20 minutes enabled Woodcote to go 2-1 up from the penalty spot with Jake Dillon scoring his second of the game.

Woodcote were now in full flow controlling the midfield and firing numerous crosses into the box but quality on the final ball stopped them from putting Hurst to the sword.
