HAMBLEDEN cruised into the semi-finals of the Tom Hooker League Cup thanks to a comfortable win against Oakridge Rebels at the Dene on Saturday.
The visitors made it difficult for the first half an hour. Adam North squandered an early opportunity after just three minutes, failing to pass the Rebel keeper when given plenty of time at the far post after Stuart Macllenan had located him with a crossfield ball.
North again failed to convert a bouncing ball when Macllenan outwitted his defender to set up North in a similar position.
The hosts thought they had taken the lead when North found space down the left and centred to Macllenan who finished well but was deemed to be in an offside position.
On the half-hour mark Hambleden eventually took the lead when the returning Ashley Dixon crossed from the right for Dean Kemp to swivel and turn inside the area to force the ball past the Rebel keeper.
