SHIPLAKE COLLEGE’S staff team had the edge over the Oratory staff team in a match played out in front of more than 100 spectators.
Sharp interplay in midfield fed James Gaunt on the left wing for the hosts who proved too hot for the right back to handle and was cynically brought to ground. Ross McSweeny curled the resulting free kick into the top right corner to give his side the lead.
Shiplake went 2-0 up when Tom Walter beat the offside trap down the right channel and fired a fierce shot across goal which the Oratory goalkeeper could only parry into the path of striker Duncan Miller, who made no mistake from close range.
In the final minute of the first half The Oratory pulled a goal back out of nothing after the Shiplake keeper, deceived by the slippery surface, failed to hold a left-wing cross and left an Oratory player with a simple tap in.
From the resulting kick off, the ball was played back to substitute Joel Rowlinson who lost possession, again leaving the Oratory with a simple finish to equalise.
