League leaders too strong for Hambleden

HAMBLEDEN slumped to a comprehensive defeat away to Wycombe and District League Senior Division leaders Spartans at the Rye on Saturday.

Whilst the 5-1 score line flattered the home side Hambleden were made to pay for a combination of missed chances upfront and sloppy defending at the back.

Spartans took the lead on 18 minutes from a breakaway move.

Hambleden pressed and almost instantly Macllenan found himself in and advanced position with only one to beat, his heavy touch putting pay to any opportune equaliser.

Hambleden were again undone 10 minutes later when Brian and Rodrigues failed to clear effectively to allow Spartans to shoot. Ross Hathaway in the Hambleden goal could only parry the ball allowing an unmarked player to tap home.
