Table-toppers have the edge over Woodcote/Stoke Row
LEAGUE leaders Reading YMCA completed the Senior Division double over hosts Woodcote/Stoke Row on Saturday.
After an even first quarter of an hour YMCA took the lead when a long wind-assisted ball beat the home defence and Adie scored with an angled shot.
Soon after the goal, Woodcote had several chances to equalise with Ross Weatherstone narrowly failing to connect with a low cross from Frank Dillon. After 23 minutes an acrobatic shot from Paul Knox brought the best out of the keeper who saved at the expense of a corner. A minute later Ryan Corbett met another Dillon cross but was unable to convert. The same player then shot wide when well placed to score.
YMCA were soon back on the front foot and after 30 minutes Kane Roberts in the home goal made a good diving save to keep the ball out. Shortly afterwards YMCA increased their lead direct from a free kick after Mike Higley had been penalised on the edge of the box. The free kick was deflected off a defender and gave Roberts no chance.
The second half was another even contest with both sides creating chances without adding to the score. Both goalkeepers distinguished themselves on several occasions and Dillon constantly caused problems to the YMCA defence with his probing runs and accurate crosses.
