Gallant second-half fight back not enough

AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U15s went down to the odd goal in an 11-goal thriller against East Berks League top-of-the-table side BARTON ROVERS U15s at Henley YMCA on Saturday.

The league leaders made a fast start against a Henley team that did not defend well early on as they raced into a 5-0 half-time lead.

The second half showed a huge improvement with solid defending and crisp passing leading to many chances.

Goals from Teal Shearman, Harry Waiton, Anieth Singh, Jack Paterson and Josh McGraph created a close finish as Rovers netted just once in the half.

AFC HENLEY HOTSPURS U11s returned to the top of Division 5 on Wednesday of last week after beating third-placed WOODLEY SAINTS WOLVES U11s 6-3. Hotspurs took the lead when Felix Butterworth jinked down the right wing and provided a perfect cross for Will Symons to score. Almost immediately Butterworth repeated the favour for top scorer Leo Browne to strike. Woodley pulled one back only for Brown to score again to put Hotspurs 3-1 up at half-time.
