A DISAPPOINTING afternoon ended with new goalkeeper Anthony Shepherd going to hospital with a broken wrist as Town suffered their first away defeat of the season at North Berks League Division 5 leaders Sutton Courtenay.
Watlington started the game the brighter of the two teams but couldn’t convert a couple of presentable chances early on and found themselves 1-0 down at the break after a Sutton Courtenay free kick was not dealt with and the hosts fired in the rebound.
Town’s goalkeeper Shepherd had to leave the action at half-time after falling badly and Bob Denham took his place between the sticks for the second half.
The hosts appeared to increase the pressure on Town in the second half and soon found themselves 2-0 up when a weak Griffiths backpass was pounced on and the hosts seized the opportunity to score.
Further goals followed as the young home side burst forward past Town’s defence.
