Croxford at the double

HAMBLEDEN made it five wins from five matches as they progressed to the next round of the Tom Hooker Cup on Saturday after beating unbeaten Senior Division side Prestwood 3-1 at the Dene.

The game kicked off at a fast pace with Hambleden’s solid defensive unit stifling some early pressure from the visitors.

The Stags’ Croxford burst into the area and was nudged in the back by the recovering defender to earn his side a penalty. Croxford stepped up to score to give his side the lead at half-time.

In the second half Prestwood levelled when a a cross was whipped into the area and headed home beyond a despairing Butler.

This goal did nothing to dampen the Stags’ spirit who went on to produce their best 30 minutes of the season.

Openshaw was fouled out on the edge of the area. From the resulting free kick Croxford curled the ball beyond a keeper to restore his side’s lead.

At this point the hosts’ tails were up and they were allowing their opposition no time as Logan and Holloran were closing their opponents down.

The defensive unit were organised and disciplined with the Ellis brothers racing down the flanks all game.

The hosts wrapped up the scoring when Markwell found a cross from the left hand side, ultimately falling to Openshaw whose deflected effort found the corner of the net.
