Sutherland’s strike tames Predators

AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U10s ran out 4-1 winners away to WINDSOR SWALLOWS BLACKS U10s in their first East Berks League

AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U10s ran out 4-1 winners away to WINDSOR SWALLOWS BLACKS U10s in their first East Berks League match of the New Year on Saturday.

Will Davie impressed on his debut at the back while Jamie Hudson also started strongly in defence using his speed to cover the Windsor attack. Will Saunders gave a masterclass in defending while Luke Taylor was imperious in goal.

In the second quarter the introduction of Ben Hudson proved to be a catalyst for Henley. Man-of-the-match Ben Hudson started to put Windsor on the back foot as the visitors took the lead. Hudson slipped the ball through to Jem McAllister who finished with style. McAllister returned the compliment flicking the ball on to Hudson for a fine finish.

In the second half Windsor came back at Henley strongly and were rewarded for their efforts with a goal.

Henley restored their two goal advantage when Ben Hudson broke free and delivered a cut back which Hudson fired home.

The visitors finished the game as strongly as they started. Archie Barker hit the post before sending McAllister through with a pinpoint pass. McAllister wrapped the game up in style by nonchalantly flicking the ball into the air and powering a volley into the net.

AFC HENLEY HAWKS U10s ran out 3-2 East Berks League winners away to PINEWOOD PREDATORS U10s last Saturday.

George Partridge opened the scoring for the Hawks in the first half before the hosts hit back with two goals before half-time.

In the second half the Hawks dug in with their defence, led by a series of crunching tackles by man-of-the-match and captain Charlie Wall, and fine saves by goalkeeper Sammy Phillips, who proved impenetrable for the remainder of the game.

Season top scorer Leon Bradshaw capitalised from attacking runs by midfielder Ben Young and thundering kicks by Felix Butterworth and scored the Hawks’ second goal.

Sylvester Sutherland sealed the much-needed victory for the visiting team with the third goal.

AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U9s left it late to secure maximum points at WHITEGROVE LIONS U9s in the East Berks Section C on Saturday.

The visitors were in a determined mood having missed out on a cup semi-final place at the hands of Whitegrove before Christmas, and after missing several early chances went ahead through Flower following good wing play by Smith.

Both teams created chances and despite solid defending from Wylie and Williams, Whitegrove forced some good saves out of Butler in goal.

Despite some penetrative play from Kernick on the left and Strachan-Jarvis and Weller on the right, the score remained 1-0 going into the closing 10 minutes.

Henley made it 2-0 when a cross fell loose in the box and Clark was first to react to poke home. Soon after a cross from Flower found Wylie who finished neatly. The victory was rounded off by a second from Clark, who took the ball from outside the Whitegrove area before picking his spot to score.
