Spot on Van Raalte earns side a place in shield finals

SHIPLAKE COLLEGE won their third Home Counties Shield match to progress to the finals day of the competition next week.

SHIPLAKE COLLEGE won their third Home Counties Shield match to progress to the finals day of the competition next week.

A James Bailey shot to the keeper’s left from the edge of the area gave Shiplake an early lead before defensive confusion enabled the visitors to equalise.

In the second half the visitors took the lead before an Alex Ward shot hit the inside of the post and rebounded into the net off a Thorpe House defender.

Two minutes from time a Shiplake corner hit the hand of a visiting player in the penalty area. Van Raalte, with eight goals in three games, calmly slotted home the resulting spot kick to earn Shiplake victory.

Shiplake will now play in the finals at Thorpe House School on Wednesday.
