NIGEL ADKINS is champing at the bit to get going as Royals manager as he begins to structure a single game focus. “Obviously over a period of time there might be things we want to change but right now, we’re going to take it one game at a time.
And he underlined the importance of the Royals supporters to the football club.
“We all want the same thing. We want to be in the Premier League, we want to be successful. The supporters are the football club. It’s their football club. They want to see players that can go out and be totally committed to the cause.
“The supporters have got to lift the players and the players have got to lift the supporters. We’ve all got to be together. I had a great relationship with the supporters at Bangor City, Scunthorpe United and Southampton — and I’d love to think we’ve got a great relationship in store here at Reading.
“This is a huge opportunity for me to come to a great club like Reading and work in the Premier League again.”
But Adkins admitted that they would have to wait until the end of a naturally ‘fragmented’ week to really get in amongst their new group.
“We’ve got guys away on international duty at the moment, so it could be a bit fragmented, like a lot of football clubs are at the moment with players away.
“We’ve got a great game lined up against Arsenal at the weekend and we’re all going to relish the challenge that we’re now faced with.”

A trip to the Emirates is a mouth-watering prospect for any manager and Adkins’ preparations start here.
