Beales’ hat-trick helps Whitchurch Hill lift Youth Cup

WHITCHURCH HILL U15s won the Peter Houseman YouthCup last weekend in a stunning 10-1 final win against AFC NEWBURY U15s.

WHITCHURCH HILL U15s won the Peter Houseman YouthCup last weekend in a stunning 10-1 final win against AFC NEWBURY U15s.

The game was marred with cards in the second half but this didn’t take the gloss off a fine win for Whitchurch.

Jack Bryant rounded off the afternoon with a hat-trick while Harvey Beales netted a brace with either foot.

A red card for the centre back in the second half saw Whitchurch take control and goals followed by Ben Cook, Kieran Thorne, Boyan Thorpe, Henry Arthur and Will Whitworth.

Whitchurch now have 11 games to play in the league campaign which means they will be played Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday each week for the remaining three weeks of the season.

WHITCHURCH HILL U10s, despite playing up a year in the Oxford Mail Boys’ League U11 section, went top of the table last Sunday with a 2-0 win against table leaders MARSTON SAINTS U11s.

In a close first half with chances at either end Max Hanshaw was alert at all times and the back three were quick, clever and strong in the defensive third.

As the half-time whistle was about to blow James Plumridge turned on the magic, his first attempt on the volley lashed the bar but seconds later he was on hand to tap home Archie Mew’s low cross to put Whitchurch 1-0 up.

The second half saw Whitchurch turn on the style and they were unlucky not to come away with more goals.

A fine solo goal by Justin Davis gave the side a fine win but only the post and the Marston keeper’s heroics kept the score line down to 2-0.

Whitchurch now have three games remaining to win the league and have two semi-finals to play midweek.
