WYCOMBE and District Senior Division title holders Hambleden go into tomorrow’s home match with Spartans knowing that only a win will do if they are to retain their crown after slipping to a home defeat against Great Missenden.
Hambleden started brightly with Dean Kemp sending in an early cross after beating his marker and reaching the byline.
Simon Hathaway collected the ball from Matt Cook and played in Paul Reading who turned and flashed a shot just wide of the mark.
On 28 minutes Hambleden took the lead. Nikolai Lakovic claimed a ball at the back, Cook helped it on and Hathaway found Reading on the edge of the area who fired home.
Great Missenden pulled a goal back four minutes before the interval from a corner.
Hambleden responded with Reading heading the ball wide when well placed. On the stroke of half-time the visitors took the lead.
In the second half Chris Brunning exchanged passes with North and found his way into a forward position but his cross eluded Reading in front of goal.
On the hour mark Hambleden equalised after Adam North scored direct from a corner.
With half an hour to play Hambleden manager Rodrigues made several changes as he went for a winner.
Whilst initially the change allowed Shed to fire in on goal after North’s approach play it seemed to leave Hambleden more vulnerable at the back.
When Brunning and Irving failed to deal with a falling ball Missenden substitute Johnson took advantage and passed his shot past the hapless Hathaway and into the Hambleden goal.
Whilst Hambleden pressed from the restart it was Missenden who sensed advantage and when a clever pass again split the Hambleden defence the visitors increased their lead.
