AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U11s narrowly lost out in the East Berks League Cup final on Saturday after going down to a last minute penalty given for handball.

In the first period Henley kept things tight hassling and closing down a strong Ascot side and had the better of the chances. Jake Jones’ long range effort cannoned off the bar while Ben Stoldonic’s shot was well saved by the opposition keeper.

Ascot took the lead on 14 minutes after a defensive mix-up.

Henley equalised in the second period when Oliver Andrews scored with a looping header over the Ascot keeper. Ascot responded well to the goal and Henley goalkeeper Matt Balchin pulled off a couple of good stops as the match looked to be heading for extra time.

But in the dying minutes after a cross from an Ascot winger the referee ruled a handball against a Henley defender to give Ascot the opportunity to win the cup which they took.

Henley will be looking to avenge the defeat when they meet Ascot again on Saturday at home.

Earlier Bracknell had pulled a goal back. Poray scored his second before Jamie Olive netted his side’s seventh of the match.

AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U10s were crowned East Berks League Division 3 champions with two games to spare after winning 2-1 at SANDHURST TOWN U10s last Saturday.

Sandhurst were awarded a penalty in the first half but Henley keeper Justus Larter did enough to put the Sandhurst penalty taker off as the chance was blasted wide.

Ben Hudson struck first for Henley, showing strength to hold off several defenders before dispatching a powerful left-footed shot past the Sandhurst keeper.

Henley’s lead was short lived as a long clearance from Sandhurst bobbled unkindly for goalkeeper Larter leading him to a miskick his clearance with the ball creeping over the line.

Henley put pressure on Sandhurst and scored the winner when man-of-the-match Hudson netted with a left-footed shot from the edge of the area.
