Royals to entertain Ipswich in first game

READING Football Club kick off their 2013/14 Championship campaign with a home fixture against Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich Town on Saturday, August 3.

The game will see a return to Madejski Stadium for former Royals midfielder Jay Tabb who joined the Tractor Boys in the summer.

The Royals, relegated from the Premier League last season, follow that with a trip to the Reebok Stadium when they take on Dougie Freedman’s Bolton Wanderers a week later.

Five games in August also see visits to Paul Ince’s Blackpool and Championship new boys Yeovil Town, with a visit from Gianfranco Zola’s Watford to the Madejski Stadium also pencilled in.

The fixtures which were announced yesterday, also include a much-anticipated midweek home clash with Brian McDermott’s Leeds United on Tuesday, September 17.

The Royal will entertain QPR in a Hoops derby at Madejski Stadium on Saturday, November 9.

Wigan, who dropped out of the top flight along with the Royals and QPR, travel to the Madejski Stadium on December 21.

The Christmas period sees Reading visit Leicester City on Boxing Day, with a longer trip to Middlesbrough three days later, while Nottingham Forest are the visitors on January 1 2014.

Watford, Bolton, Ipswich and Blackpool all await in January, with Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday lined up for the first two weeks in February before a trip to Loftus Road to take on QPR.

This season’s Championship will kick-off in Saturday, August 3 and will finish on Saturday, May 3.

The play-off finals for all the divisions in the Football League will be held at Wembley Stadium between May 24-26.

Nigel Adkins’ side will be hoping to be challenging for promotion over the final weeks of the season which will see them host Middlesbrough and visit Doncaster before finishing with a home game against Burnley on May 3.

The majority of the Royals players will return for pre-season training on Thursday, June 27. The first friendly of the summer is scheduled to be played at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, July 13.
