Plenty in reserve for new boss Nightingale

HENLEY TOWN Football Club have appointed former Woodley Town stalwart Jim Nightingale as their reserve team manager.

HENLEY TOWN Football Club have appointed former Woodley Town stalwart Jim Nightingale as their reserve team manager.

Nightingale will be assisted by Albie Stevenson, who has managed at Henley before, for the reserves’ East Berks League Division One campaign next season.

New manager Cyril Fairchild and his assistant Craig Hiscock have made good use of their time since arriving at the club by organising a facelift of the Mill Lane clubhouse.

The work, involving players who are yet to kick a ball for Henley Town, has included replastering, decoration of the changing rooms and a shower upgrade as well as other plumbing and electrical jobs.

Henley secretary Tony Kingston said their efforts had brought a complete new feeling to the club.

“We have players putting things back into the club instead of wanting everything for nothing,” Kingston said.

“I have been involved at the club for more than 25 years and have never seen players doing this before.

“They now have pride in their new club and things are looking good for the season ahead.”

Henley will start pre-season training at the Mill Lane ground on Thursday, June 27 at 7pm, then every Tuesday and Thursday evening.

Both old and new players are invited to attend or to call Cyril Fairchild on 07982 891619.

The club is also looking for volunteers to join to help on match days and during the week.

The weekday jobs would suite a pensioner who would enjoy mowing the grass and tidying up around the ground. Anyone interested is asked to call Jack Hollidge on 07766 108698.

Saturday, July 13: away to South Midland League side HOLMER GREEN.

Saturday July 20: away to Wessex League side TADLEY CALLEVA.
