TWO early goals sent Henley Town on their way to defeating the reigning Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East champions in an exciting and tensely fought game on Saturday writes Mike Trendall.

Leading scorer Graham Sims fired a 20 yard drive into the home net in the 21st minute and five minutes later Mitchell Cooper netted from even further out.

The hosts fought back strongly and pulled a goal back before half-time through Callum McCarroll.

In the second half Ben Clark restored Henley’s two-goal lead before the visitors conceded a penalty five minutes from time. McCarroll stepped up to beat Ashley East in the Henley goal for his second of the match.

Red Kites manager Craig Hiscock used his substitutes Ryan Witt, Rupen Limbu and Andrew Nunn wisely to ensure and there was no repeat of last season’s fixture when the hosts levelled the scores late on. Matt Goodwin was sent off for picking up his second yellow card for Henley late in the game.
