LAST season’s Premier Division champions EMMER GREEN ran out 2-0 winners against reigning Senior Division champions BARTON ROVERS at the Recreation Ground.
The hosts were the better of the two teams in the first half with both strikers Luke Donegan and Richard Bennett going close.
Luke Donegan put Emmer Green ahead on the 15 minute mark. A run down the right wing by Matt Fox saw him deliver a good ball into the box allowing Luke Donegan to get up at the back post and head home.
Barton Rovers came out the stronger of the two teams in the second half but were denied by the hosts’ strong back four and keeper Charlie Cubbage who pulled off several good saves. The visitors had a man sent off for a late challenge on Adam Toombs. Down to 10 men, Emmer Green took full advantage with good play in the middle finding Luke Donegan put through Bennett and for him to fire home into the top right hand corner.
The hosts had a goal disallowed for an offside decision while Chris Reed and James Cross both missed good chances. GORING UNITED made it back-to-back wins as they beat Division 1 West basement side BETHEL UNITED 3-0.
The hosts took the lead after 14 minutes when a long ball from Russell Collier found Luke Butler in space and he finished in style from 18 yards.
Goring went 2-0 up when Simon Browne and Alex Fletcher combined, with the later scoring from close range.
Bethel United started the second half brightly but the two Goring centre halfs, Jon Nicholas and Jon Wale, defended well against anything that was thrown at them.
The sucker punch came in the 70th minute when Goring broke away and after a run and cross by Mark Sachse found Simon Browne who scored from close range.
In Division 2 West, strugglers KIDMORE END RESERVES suffered a 5-3 defeat away to BARTON ROVERS RESERVES.
WHITLEY PANTHERS moved to the top of Division 3 East after easing to a comfortable 4-0 win at MAPLEDURHAM.
