Wright nets hat-trick

NEITHER side managed to get to grips with the wet and windy conditions as visitors Long Wittenham took all three

NEITHER side managed to get to grips with the wet and windy conditions as visitors Long Wittenham took all three points from Saturday’s North Berks League Division 1 clash.

Watlington started brightly forcing the Long Wittenham keeper to pull off two saves early on. The hosts had a spell of pressure that resulted in several corners but the Wittenham defence stood strong.

Wittenham took the lead from a long goal-kick and the Watlington defence was caught flat-footed and a Wittenham player was free in the middle for a tap-in.

Shortly before half-time it was 2-0 to Long Wittenham, again a defensive error from Watlington.

After the break Watlington again started strong and pulled a goal back with a strike from Julian Pitts. Soon after from a Watlington corner Long Wittenham broke on the counter to make it 3-1. James Roberts fired home late on for in for Watlington’s second.

A FIRST-HALF Andy Wright hat-trick helped Watlington Reserves on the way to their biggest Division 5 win of the season. An Andy Wright treble and goals from Martyn Newbold and Conor B’layachi saw the visitors race into a 5-0 first-half lead.

In the second half Uffington pulled a goal back before James Harris capped an impressive performance with a sxith strike for Watlington. Uffington scored a second goal late on.
