HAMBLEDEN RESERVES are back in the Wycombe and District League Premier Division title race after a hard fought win away
HAMBLEDEN RESERVES are back in the Wycombe and District League Premier Division title race after a hard fought win away to Prestwood Reserves as other results went their way on Saturday.
On a windy and wet pitch Hambleden were the more dominant team for large periods of the match. Jack Holloran forced the Prestwood keeper into a smart one-on-one save in the first half but despite plenty of pressure this was the only real clear cut chance of the half for the visitors. Prestwood created one attempt on goal which was smartly blocked by Ben Holloran. Marcus Cook, making his return from injury, saw his free kick from 20 yards rattle the bar on the hour.
Hambleden freshened things up with some timely substitutions which seemed to just add the edge against a tiring Prestwood side.
The pressure finally paid off on 75 minutes after a series of five straight corners resulted in club chairman Adam Markwell volleying in from 10 yards at the back post into the far corner.
The hosts started to press forward looking for the leveller and had three efforts on target that Butler dealt with.
