McAllister is the hat-trick hero as Hurricanes hold on for victory

AFC HENLEY HARRIERS U18s slipped to a 4-2 defeat at home to WEST BYFLEET SCORPIONS ATHLETIC U18s in Division 3

AFC HENLEY HARRIERS U18s slipped to a 4-2 defeat at home to WEST BYFLEET SCORPIONS ATHLETIC U18s in Division 3 of the East Berks League on Saturday.

In slippery conditions the hosts started the match well and took the lead when Ollie Martin Davis played a 40-yard crossfield pass to Sam Hunter who controlled the ball and slid it under the advancing keeper whilst under pressure from his marker.

The lead was short lived as Henley failed to clear and West Byfleet equalised.

Shortly after West Byfleet took the lead with a well worked goal that switched the play and was finished with an accurate downward header.

Both teams made goal-line clearances as the conditions made defending difficult. Just before half-time Henley had a penalty appeal turned down.

Freddie Borg made a number of outstanding saves to keep Henley in it but was powerless to prevent an own goal from an innocuous cross deflected past him.

West Byfleet scored another as their pressure began to tell. Jimmy Cottle cut the deficit with a flick with his back to goal late in the game.

AFC HENLEY HOTSPURS U12s made it four wins in four games with a comfortable 9-2 victory away at WOODLEY WANDERERS SHARKS U12s in the East Berks League.

Two early goals by Luke Freeman put the visitors ahead. Woodley created a couple of chances but were thwarted by Alex Tams in the Henley goal. The visitors kept pressing forward and their neat passing play resulted in a succession of corners.

With Zodey Sabijan’s crosses causing confusion in the Woodley penalty area, Leo Browne took advantage with two goals of his own. A third Sabijan corner was quickly taken to Jack Rait, who picked out centre half Leon Bradshaw to shoot, but his goal bound shot was handled on the line. Bradshaw himself stepped up to calmly slot home the resulting penalty.

Just before half-time in what was to prove the move of the match, Nick Bird won the ball in midfield, passed to Xavier Mica who played a through ball to Freeman. Instead of going for his third goal he squared the ball for Browne to pass the ball into the net for his hat-trick and put Henley 6-0 up at half-time.

Henley took their foot off the gas in the second half as Woodley came out to try and gain something from the match. With a neat move they pulled a goal back, only for Henley to score again through Rait with a smart finish from the edge of the area.

Woodley never gave up and pulled another goal back before man-of-the-match Browne broke through to set up Sabijan to score.

Freeman sealed his hat-trick with an audacious lob from outside of the box to complete the scoreline.

AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U12s ran out 4-3 winners in their East Berks League clash with SOUTH READING U12s.

On a heavy pitch Henley took the lead through a Ben Hudson header. Henley showed their intent with continual attacking play winning a free kick just outside the Reading area, struck well by Jem McAllister but it was cleared away by Reading.

Henley went 2-0 up when McAllister scored from a free kick. The same player got his name on the scoresheet again moments later when he took the ball past several defenders before beating the keeper to make it 3-0. South Reading pulled a goal back just before the interval.

McAllister completed his hat-trick in the second half before Reading changed their formation and pulled two goals back.

A clearance off the line by Will Saunders kept Reading from equalising in the last few minutes of the game.
