Champions have edge

BERKSHIRE Youth Development League Division 2 winners elect KENNET VALLEY U12s had the edge over hosts GORING ROBINS

BERKSHIRE Youth Development League Division 2 winners elect KENNET VALLEY U12s had the edge over hosts GORING ROBINS U12s as they triumphed 1-0.

Good goalkeeping by both George Dodd for the Robins and Kennet Valley number one meant that only a single chance was actually converted.

The Robins started well and with Will Wakelam commanding his defence, supported by Ludo Fawcett and Josh Wild-Gough the Robins created a platform for Josh Wiltshire, Harry Purdy, Richard Lloyd and Alex Jaffray to pass through and probe the midfield and the defence of Kennet. The best first half chance for the Robins came from a through ball by Wiltshire to Jaffray which was lifted just over the bar. Other chances came and went at both ends before half-time arrived. The Robins were encouraged on by manager Matt Dodd and continued to create second half chances.

Kennet Valley attacked with equal vigour and a cross from wide midfield was run on to and controlled before being placed in the corner of the goal past the advancing Dodd.

Later Dodd made a double-save from close range with the help of the post to deny Kennet Valley a second.

Later chances for Will Graham, as well as two for substitute Harry Kirk were not taken.
