Five for Rotherfield United

ROTHERFIELD UNITED U13s claimed their second win in this year’s Berkshire Youth Development Cup competition against GORING ROBINS U13s to leave themselves in a good position with two games remaining in the group stage

ROTHERFIELD UNITED U13s claimed their second win in this year’s Berkshire Youth Development Cup competition against GORING ROBINS U13s to leave themselves in a good position with two games remaining in the group stage.

Goring hit the target first against the run of play, which brought a period of frustration for the home side. But Joseph Richardson soon restored the balance when his low shot crept through a crowd of players to equalise.

A brace of quick-fire goals followed from Drew Preston and Ollie Sayer to give Rotherfield a 3-1 half-time lead.

Rotherfield began after the break on top with Preston forcing a good save from the opposition goalkeeper. The fourth goal then arrived via the head of Alfie Eaton from a Preston corner.

As the half wore on, just when the game looked like it was petering out, Goring pulled a goal back. The remainder of the game was played in the middle of the park although Rotherfield made their last chance count.

Charlie Douglas’ effort from an angle was well saved and Joseph Parkins saw his rebound blocked before Moeen Ulhaq used his strength to hold off the defender and tap in Rotherfield’s fifth.

Two group games remain in the race for a semi-final spot.
