WOODCOTE/STOKE ROWb> were left to rue wasted opportunities when going down 3-1 to Premier Division leaders Reading YMCA.

Keeper Kane Roberts was also sent off late on when picking up a second yellow card, which resulted in the home side netting the killer third goal.

The deadlock was broken in the sixth minute by YMCA, with the ball ending in the net after a goalmouth scramble.

But this was after Woodcote’s Toby Nowell had gone close for the visitors moments earlier.

The league leaders went on to double their lead seconds after the restart, but were pegged back on 75 minutes when Nowell burst through and made no mistake.

The away side were then given the chance to equalise from the penalty spot when substitute Paul Knox was upended in the box.

Another replacement, Ross Weatherstone, stepped up but saw his effort saved.

The ball, though, bounced back kindly for Knox to tap home, but he too was denied by an upright.

Woodcote were then dealt a blow when Roberts came charging out of the area to make a challenge, only to take out an opponent and pick up a second yellow card. Stand-in Gareth Evans saved well from the resulting free kick, but the rebound was turned home to make the points safe.

Elsewhere in the Division, ROTHERFIELD UNITED recorded a vital 3-0 at Unity to boost their hopes of beating the drop.

The result moved the side to within a point of 12th-placed Sandhurst Devels, although United have played three more games than their Berkshire rivals.

WARGRAVE RESERVES, meanwhile, will fight it out with Highmoor/Ibis B in the final of the Berkshire Trophy Centre Intermediate.

This is after the village side outscored ROTHERFIELD UNITED RESERVES by the odd goal in five during Saturday’s semi-final. Richard Bookless, Jason Heath and Daniel Tegg got the goals which secured a memorable victory.

Michael Simpson was on target twice for beaten Rotherfield.

The showdown will take place at the Ibis Club in Scours Lane, Reading on a date to be announced.

Both sides meet again in the league tomorrow.
