AFC HENLEY HOTSPURS U13s made it six wins in a row to wrap up the Division 7 East Berks League title as they defeated PINEWOOD PANTHERS U13s 7-2
The Hotspurs began the match in third place but knew a win would take them to the top, with the teams above them having already completed their fixtures.
The hosts started brightly and after some sustained pressure, Max Gaskin thundered a shot against the crossbar which Luke Bradbury followed up to take the lead. Bradbury added to his tally after some mazy dribbling through the heart of the Pinewood defence by Charlie O’Neil.
Pinewood got themselves back on level terms after a good strike from distance.
The introduction of Thomas Hinke before the break gave the Hotspurs more of a cutting edge and his tidy finish, after good running on the wing by Tristan Laurent, put them in front once again. Hinke doubled their advantage with a direct goal through the middle shortly after to make it 4-2.
Pinewood continued to create opportunities of their own and Matthew Balchin in the Hotspurs goal made a fine diving save and another with his feet to keep the hosts in front. Entering the final 10 minutes, Elias Madzar was re-introduced back into the match and immediately had an impact, scoring with a smart finish after a ball over the top of the tiring Pinewood defence.
Now the home side were playing with more freedom and added two further goals with strikes from Madzar and Josh Le Beigge to complete the score line.
