Dawkins wins it for hosts

GREYS GREEN ran out winners at home to DORCHESTER last Sunday.

GREYS GREEN ran out winners at home to DORCHESTER last Sunday.

Choosing to field first, the hosts soon had the visitors in difficulties, with both Rooke and Ahmed getting movement off the pitch.

Diving, two-handed catches from Holroyd and Cusden followed the early removal of opener Ottery and Dorchester were struggling on 28-4 before a recovery was led by Sharman who, supported by Goodliffe, eventually reached his half-century.

Runs had been slow in the accumulation and when Dawkins caught Sharman for 58, followed immediately by another fine catch by Evans, Dorchester were in danger of not reaching three figures but some lusty hitting by Richardson brought them to 119 all out just before tea.

In reply Evans was dismissed early by Sharman. Dennis and Cusden were forced to defend well over the next 20 overs but, by punishing the bad ball, Dennis especially kept the score moving forward.

The second-wicket partnership had put on 80 before Cusden was bowled for 20 but Dennis went on to secure 54 consisting of 10 boundaries, mostly from fine shots square of the wicket.

At 92-4 Dorchester thought they might be in with a chance but Dawkins, with a breezy 19 not out, saw Greys Green home with seven overs remaining.
