HENLEY TOWN got back into winning ways with a an emphatic 6-0 win at home to Didcot Town Reserves last Saturday in Division 1 East of the Uhlsport Hellenic League.

Ben Clark put the hosts ahead after just four minutes when he was able to get in front of his marker in the six yard box and prod home a cross from Richard Bennett.

Didcot, who had two chances to go ahead themselves prior to the goal, went 2-0 down when Bennet executed a low drive from the edge of the box after 21 minutes.

A minute later a good phase of play involving Asa Povey, Jack Thomson-Wheeler and Clark saw the ball threaded through to Bennett who burst between two Didcot defenders before firing past keeper Spurrett to make it 3-0.

The hard working Clark won the ball off the Didcot defence five minutes later and played a through ball to recent Holyport signing Ryan Tye who made no mistake to put the Red Kites 4-0 up.

Just before half-time Henley made it 5-0. Thomson-Wheeler ghosted past the Didcot midfield and whipped a low ball across the face of the visitors’ goal to Tye whose effort was parried away by Spurrett and fell to Povey inside the 18 yard box who fired home into the top right hand corner.

In the second half Didcot picked themselves up and although never troubling the Henley defence ensured they stemmed the flow of goals.

On 73 minutes Henley went 6-0 up when Bennett cut a cross back to Grant Kemp on the edge of the box and his effort struck the post but substitute Matthew Godwin followed in to score on the line.

Henley Town: Kyratzis, Thomson-Wheeler, Goddard, Smith, Nunn, Povey, Mew (Witt, 79 mins), Tye, Howell (Kemp, 69 mins), Clark (Godwin, 69 mins), Bennett.
