HENLEY TOWN leapfrogged visitors Headington Amateurs into fourth place in Division 1 East of the Uhlsport Hellenic League following a 3-1 victory at their Triangle Ground.
Following a late pitch inspection the match was given the go ahead and was played out on a tacky surface.
The Red Kites welcomed back Warren Baxter who has been unavailable for a number of weeks and he stepped in at centre back in place of Gary Smith who has joined Burnham.
Henley went ahead after Asa Povey found a burst of pace that left the Headington defence stranded and he cooly slotted the ball through the advancing keeper’s legs on 13 minutes.
Headington played some good football but found themselves 2-0 down five minutes later when Ben Clark was put through by Jack Mew on the edge of the box where he beat his marker before slotting home into the bottom right hand corner.
Henley came under some fierce attacks during the second half but their 17-year-old keeper Dimitrios Kyratzis showed good goalkeeping ability to keep the Red Kites in the game.
Joe Parker grabbed the visitors a life line when he scored in a crowded area following a corner with 13 minutes to go.
Headington applied a lot of pressure in the remaining minutes but they paid the price for these attacks when Povey won the ball in midfield and sprayed it out to Grant Kemp on the right wing where he was able to find the unmarked Richard Bennett who made no mistake to make it 3-1 with two minutes of the match remaining.
