SC UNITED progressed to the last eight of the Industrial Cup after beating FC Woodley 3-1 at Bishopswood on Sunday.
The hosts took the lead after five minutes when winger Tim Bicknell was brought down just outside the box and Kieren Chard’s resultant swerving free kick nestled in the top left corner.
Midway through the first half left back Peter Sheen mistimed a headed clearance, the loose ball bouncing up and hitting his hand, gifting FC Woodley a penalty which their striker converted.
Having missed a succession of chances the hosts took the lead just before half-time when a quick throw from goalkeeper Jonny Phillips found Aaron Attfield out on the left wing, running from just inside his own half, where he took on two Woodley defenders before cutting into the box on to his right foot and placing the ball past the Woodley keeper.
With 20 minutes to go United made it 3-1 after a Chard free kick was parried into the path of substitute striker Martin Shenton who volleyed in the rebound with his left foot from close range.
United will now face 116 Exiles in the quarter-finals on January 3.
