ASA POVEY scored his fifth goal in five games to earn Henley Town a draw in Saturday’s Hellenic League Division 1 East away match at Finchampstead.
The Red Kites were unfortunate not to have taken all three points when a first half effort from Jack Thomson-Wheeler shot ricocheted off the underside of the bar and appeared to go over the line but was not given by the linesman.
Finchampstead made it a difficult game and their defence was rarely broken down until the final 10 minutes of the first half when Henley got down the wings through Grant Kemp and Jack Thomson-Wheeler but their crosses were not converted.
The second half was similar with both sides thwarting each other’s attacks.
In the 75th minute a Grant Kemp free kick was delivered into the Finchampstead box and substitute Ben Clark’s attempt was handled on the line by a defender and Povey followed up the loose ball to fire home from close range.
The hosts applied some pressure following the goal and equalised when Greg Alexander hit a strike from outside the box which found the bottom corner of the net.
Both sides had half chances in the remaining minutes with Henley striker Richard Bennett having a 25-yard shot going narrowly over the bar.
